Beginning as a jewelry designer in Manhattan, Jay Strongwater got the idea of taking peices of jewelry and incorporating them into picture frames, creating "objects of desire" for the home. Now, years later, these "jewels for the home" constiture a large collection of items ranging from the smallest of boxes to tables, screens, and lamps. Most of the work is done in Cranston, RI, one time capital of America's costume jewelry industry. Elaborate enamelwork is paved with brilliant Swarovski crystals, in metal shaped like birds, bugs, reptiles, flowers and assorted jungle beasts. All the pieces are handmade.
